Premise:

Described by Stephen King as a mix of ER and The Shining, this limited drama series is based on the Danish miniseries Riget (also called The Kingdom). Kingdom is a bizarre hospital populated by a brilliant surgeon that lives in the basement, a nearly blind security guard, a nurse who regularly faints at the sight of blood, and a paraplegic artist whose recovery is a step beyond miraculous.

The series is set up to play out like a book. King was quoted as saying "Remember that Kingdom Hospital is a 'novelization for television'. Like a novel, it will pay back dividends but you will have to give it a little bit of time."
