Justice League Unlimited – Season 1 (10/24/2006)

News:

(05/11/06) - The Seattle Post Intelligencer has a posted an article about the end of the Justice League series.

(02/07/06) - Paul Dini recently spoke about the future of JLU and Teen Titans on his livejournal: "I did an on camera interview with Bruce, David (Jimmy Olsen) Kaufman, Glen Murakami and Alan Burnett last night for the next (and last) SUPERMAN DVD set. Afterwards we went to dinner where Glen confirmed the end of TITANS, and Bruce said pretty much the same about JLU. There has been some talk about the JLU episodes airing earlier in the states, but that was still being debated at Cartoon Network. I forgot to ask Bruce how my Supergirl episode came out. Maybe I can get a preview if I'm at WB any time soon."

"I had heard people were getting more territorial with certain DC characters (no more Joker in JLU, for instance) but I didn't know the details. I knew two years ago when I left, that as heroes (and their villains) got snapped up in live movie options, it tended limited their appearances elsewhere."

(01/26/06) - According to Comics Continuum, new episodes will beginning airing February 11th on the Cartoon Network. According to a message board post over at Toon Zone, new episodes will start airing on Canada's YTV network on February 1st.

(01/18/06) - Newsarama recently had an interview with JLU executive producers Bruce Timm and James Tucker. Here are some excerpts:

About this season: “Oddly enough, this season is more about the villains than the heroes,” says Timm. “So the heroes will be rotating; whoever works best for whatever story. There are some ongoing story arcs that will be played out, like the Green Lantern/Hawkgirl/Vixen thing. That’s going to get resolved this season. Other than that, it’s more about Luthor. He’s the main character this season.”

“We are going to find out what happened to him after the whole ‘Divided We Fall’ arc,” says Tucker, “after he was fused with Brainiac. It will also give us a chance to see other Justice League characters we haven’t seen before.”

About the upcoming Hawkman arc: “Originally, when we started out we couldn’t do Carter Hall,” says Tucker. “We originally had plans to make him the villain of the ‘Starcrossed’ story, but I think fans would have screamed that they felt cheated. Now we have something that feels more true to what he is. We get to do a fairly classic take on Hawkman that also fits into our show."

Will the series return for another season?: “We’re thinking about it,” says Tucker. “We usually work like each season could be our last. That way we make sure that each episode is its best.”

Newsarama's sources are also reporting that other animated DC series are in the works: Supergirl & The Legion of Super-Heroes, a new version of Superman (The Superman - a reboot like the current The Batman series), Doom Patrol, and possibly either a Brave & Bold or World’s Finest spin-off.

(01/12/06) - A poster at the Toon Zone message boards reports, "Production on 'JLU' season 3 (or 'JL' season 5 -- take your pick) ends at the end of this month. There is apparently little or no crew left. And no talks with CN (Cartoon Network) to renew. CN hasn't renewed ANYTHING from WBA (Warner Brothers Animation) in the last six months, so I think you're looking at the end."

(01/10/06) - Dwayne McDuffie, the Producer/Story Editor of Justice League Unlimited, recently discussed the future status of the series in a podcast episode at Wordballoon.com.

"People focus too much on our adult ratings... the show does very well with children and adults...every season we found out whether we were getting picked up near the end of when the shows air... (the network) looked at the season 4 numbers...this season is different because we've finished making the shows...how can they make a decision (on a future season 6) when they've only shown four episodes?...they haven't seen the ratings."

"I can promise you a very strong season... along with the Legion of Doom storyline we got the Legion of Superheroes & the Fatal Five coming up... Deadman...more of the Carter Hall/Hawkman story...Mark Hammil will appear as the Trickster... Stay tuned. It's really worth the wait."

(01/06/06) - According to Comics Continuum, "plans are for the show to return in late spring/summer. No definitive dates have been scheduled. According to Continuum sources, the show's future also remains undecided. In other JLU news, Geoff Johns worked on a second Hawkman episode."

Also, according to Comics Continuum, "The Legion of Super-Heroes will be featured along with Supergirl in an upcoming episode of Cartoon Network's Justice League Unlimited. In the episode, Supergirl is kidnapped to the 31st century for what the history books say was her last adventure. The Fatal Five appears, as do more than 20 Legionnaires. Among the Legion members in the episode are Brainiac 5 and Bouncing Boy. The Legion's appearance has nothing to do with the 'Legion' show in development at Warner Bros. Animation."

In addition, the two-part series finale (lets hope that changes to season finale) will "reveal the real reason behind all the super-villain's recent attacks and lead to the most unexpected team-up in Justice League history."

(12/07/05) - Good News! Justice League will finally be released in a season set. It should hit stores on March 21, 2006.

(09/07/05) - CBR news recently had an interview with Dwayne McDuffie titled Justice For All.

(08/30/05) - According to ToonZone, Justice League Unlimited is returning soon. "We are Legion" and "Shadow of the Hawk" will air on September 17th, while "Chaos At the Earth's Core" and "To Another Shore" will air on September 24th. These episodes will air back to back from 10pm-11pm (ET).

(08/10/05) - According to ToonZone.net, a marketing director (Nancy Spears) at Warner Home Video has spoken out about the future of DC Comics' animated TV series on DVD. She said that fans should expect more box sets of Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series in the near future. She also said that "box sets for Batman Beyond and Justice League are 'currently under evaluation.' " Plus, "Warner Home Video 'should have good news soon' concerning future Animated DC DVD box sets."

(07/22/05) - The Superman Homepage reported that an upcoming direct-to-video animated movie will be titled Superman vs. Braniac. No confirmation yet on if this movie will be part of the 'Timmverse' (Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, and Justice League Unlimited).

(07/11/05) - Check out the recent interview with Dwayne McDuffie at Toon Zone, where he discusses the end of the season.

(02/17/05) - Cartoon Network has announced an additional episode order for 23 new episodes of Justice League Unlimited.

"This season, Black Canary, Shayera, Vigilante, Vixen and The Question step up to face such villains as Lex Luthor, Felix Faust and Tobias Whale. And Superman takes on Cadmus in a battle that will determine the future of the League." (The official description giving by Cartoon Network.)
