Battlestar Galactica is a "re-imagining" of the Universal Studios late 1970s television series Battlestar Galactica.

News: (09/08/06) - Ronald D. Moore, executive producer of Battlestar Galactica, told fans at this year’s WorldCon that the third season will be a deadly one.

"Oh, there're some changes in the air," Moore said. "We're going to lose some people this year. Not all of our friends are going to make it all the way."

Moore added that the 2.5 DVD will include a special 90-minute version of the episode “Pegasus.”

(04/28/06) - On April 25 the SCIFI Channel has announced its development of Caprica, a spin-off prequel of Battlestar Galactica. The spin-off comes from executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, writer Remi Aubuchon (24) and NBC Universal Television Studio.

The description giving is..."Caprica would take place more than half a century before the events that play out in Battlestar Galactica. The people of the Twelve Colonies are at peace and living in a society not unlike our own, but where high technology has changed the lives of virtually everyone for the better."

"But a startling breakthrough in robotics is about to occur, one that will bring to life the age-old dream of marrying artificial intelligence with a mechanical body to create the first living robot: a Cylon. Following the lives of two families, the Graystones and the Adamas (the family of William Adama, who will one day become the commander of the Battlestar Galactica), Caprica will weave together corporate intrigue, techno-action and sexual politics into television's first science fiction family saga."

(03/09/06) - The SCI FI Channel has officially announced that Battlestar Galactica will return in October with a full 20-episode third season. Production begins in Vancouver, Canada, in April.

(02/06/06) - The SCI FI Channel has announced that Lucy Lawless is joining the cast of Battlestar Galactica in the upcoming third season. Lawless will reprise her role as D'Anna Biers in a 10-episode arc. Lawless appears next on February 24 in the episode "Downloaded."

(11/09/05) - According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC Universal has struck a deal with DirecTV to allow viewers to pay video-on-demand to watch current prime-time series hours after they air for free, including Battlestar Galactica and Surface.

NBC will be charging 99 cents per commercial-free episode. This news coincides with a similar announcement from CBS and Comcast and a rumored deal between ABC and Apple's iPod.

(10/31/05) - According to TV Week, the Sci Fi Channel has ordered a third season of Battlestar Galactica. No official word yet to confirm that or how many episodes have been ordered. The popular SF series did fall a bit in the ratings this season, second season dropped from an average of 1.7 million (18- to 49-year-old viewers) last year to 1.5 million.

(09/23/05) - Now Playing magazine has posted interviews about the upcoming episode "Pegasus."

(08/08/05) - Congrations to the cast and crew of Battlestar Galactica for winning the Hugo award for best dramatic presentation, short form, for its first-season premiere, "33."

(07/25/05) - Katee Sackhoff told SCI FI Wire that she asked the producers to expand a storyline in which her character finds romance. "I have a love interest that comes in in episode four and five, and he left," Sackhoff said. "He was gone. And I thought to bring him back, and it's a big deal to have to bring him back, because basically you have to go back to Caprica again. ... It's a huge thing. It's a couple of episodes, if not more than that, to bring his character back, and I fought for that because we have great chemistry and I enjoy him."

"She is extremely vulnerable, and extremely fragile," she said. "And she wants so badly to be loved. And she doesn't know how to do that. She's been hurt so many times in her life. The easiest way for her to feel loved is to have sex with somebody, to feel that immediate connection. And I think that when she [did] do that and realized that wasn't what [she] wanted, again, she leaves them. So that's why it's a string of men and it's only one time or two times. But I think with the man that she met on Caprica, she finally gave her heart to someone. And it's a big thing for her, and we've been seeing the emotional toll it has taken for her, because she misses him a lot."

(07/19/05) - Co-creator Ronald D. Moore revealed in a panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego that the Battlestar Pegasus will be appearing this season [episode 10], a returning element from the original series. David Eick, co-creator and executive producer gave SCI FI Wire a few more details.

"This really came out of a conversation Ron and I had early on about the episodes we had seen of the original show and what felt like they might be well served by a fresh interpretation," Eick said. "The storyline that we thought was interesting was the Battlestar Pegasus. And so, naturally, we put a pretty unexpected and, I think, pretty subversive spin on it. But it's definitely going to be a fixture for a while."

Eick said. "It stands to reason that in a show that's all about how we're all trying to survive this horrific attack by this inhuman enemy, that the thing that we're really exploring is not that threat from without, but how it turns itself inward and how it becomes insidious and internal, and how it begins to break us down from inside ourselves," he said. "And what better way to take that idea to the next level than to introduce another human being who, on the face of it, is going to help us defeat the Cylons, defeat that third outside enemy, once and for all, but in reality serves to only remind us once again that the biggest enemy is really us?"

(06/02/05) - [Warning: Spoilers] Series creator and executive producer Ronald D. Moore told Sci Fi Wire, that more characters die in the upcoming second season.

"Yes, there are a couple of familiar faces that will go down for the count," Moore said. "I would say the events of the end of last season [mark] the beginning of this season."

"Adama's (Edward James Olmos) shot. There's people stranded on Kobol. Kara's (Katee Sackhoff) back on Caprica. Those storylines continue; all those continue. I would say we don't wrap up season one until episode seven. Adama is not back on his feet anytime soon. Commander Tigh (Michael Hogan) is in charge of Galactica. Laura (Mary McDonnell) is in jail. There's a meteor crisis that follows the cliffhanger, and Tigh kind of steers them through that crisis successfully. But, you know, Tigh, he's probably the guy you don't want in charge."

"Things begin to unravel when [Tigh's] in charge of the fleet. He declares martial law at a certain point. There is an incident where he sends the troops to get supplies, because the ships are withholding supplies from Galactica. He says enough is enough and sends out the troops, and an incident happens, and people get killed. They shoot a bunch of civilians. It's a whole nightmare, and Laura starts an insurrection and the fleet divides. There's a lot of fallout from the events of the last season."

(02/23/05) - The SCI FI Channel has officially announced that the second season of Battlestar Galactica will premiere this summer, with 20 new episodes. The entire ensemble cast will return for season two.

(02/18/05) - According to Sy-Fy Portal, the second season will be 20 episodes.

(02/15/05) - It's official, the SCI FI Channel has announced that it has ordered a second season of Battlestar Galactica. Details of the renewal have not been revealed at this time.
